Comics in Disguise

Sorry Prime, we're not 'cool' enough for banners yet.

March 31st , 2007

Ah, the final day of March. If you're poking around the site, you'll notice several new banners have gone up. Whether or not I'll keep them around for the long term is debatable. I kind of like switching it up every now and then. I spent a long time fixing up Hound though, so he's back on the main page. DON'T PANIC... Astrotrain IS still around, he's on the about page right now and will probably remain as the archived comics banner for now. Starscream sort of went missing in action, he'll probably return sometime as well, but Thundercracker and Skywarp are hanging around on the robots and links pages.

Wow this week went insanely fast! For those of you that were wondering Monday what exactly it is Windcharger can do... he can create 'magnetic fields'. Sometimes it's like a forcefield against anything metallic, other times he can actually pull robots towards him. (He rescues Bumblebee from a crevice by pulling him up)
And I guess uh... that's pretty much it. You'd think it would be more useful but he never really does much. I would think it would be incredibly difficult to control a lot of times.

Monday! ....Yay....
New comic up. I hope you can all appreciate the excrutiating circumstances to which I finished it tonight - sandwiched at my computer between my brother on his laptop and his girlfriend directly behind me on a chair while I sat at my computer with my headphones on full blast colouring.
For anyone that has Internet Explorer 7 - I put up a mini icon unique to the website, a little head of Jazz. I chose Jazz because he was the very first banner I ever created for the site, but also because out of all the robots I tried, he is a robot that is easily distinguished because of his bright blue visor. (I tried Ratchet, believe me, it just wasn't working =/ )

Another news update! Just because! ... I suppose.
Well the weekend is here guys! Well, after 5pm I suppose when I get off work. THEN it's the weekend. And the weekend means... more drawing! I hope you guys have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday!

This is one of my favourite screencaps I've taken of Optimus Prime. I forget what he's shrugging about, but it looks like he's just taken an 'accidental' shot at Powerglide or something and is like, "Oh well, they'll thank me for it later.

Happy uh.. Thursday robot fans!
So it looks like the Autobots are in a bit of a spot. Although perhaps they were in a bit of a spot Monday, now they're just done for. I wanted to thank everyone who's reading, and to let you guys know that the archives page has now been successfully updated. Why I let it get behind sometimes I just don't know, it's pretty easy to keep updated....
Me and Megs had a mini debate over Monday's reference to the Mortal Kombat movies. I think because MK1 had characters from 1 and 2 in it, while MK2 had most of the characters from 3. For some reason I remember Reptile got squished by Liu Kang and he had all these bugs inside him? I assume I'm right, because frankly. it was horryfing.

March 19th , 2007

So this morning me and Megs went to a comic convention. I was interested in talking with the comic artists there on some few things - a lot of technical stuff. I was curious what kind of inking tools they used - something that might replace my fumey markers.
So imagine how hard I laughed when I picked up the exact same Sharpie marker at one of the artist's desks. I'm sure everyone else thought I was crazy. We got tons of comics though, thanks to Meg who can really dig while I was simply standing around to 'hold' them and be... supportive....
We talked with the artists as well about the upcoming Transformer movie. I feel so dirty.. it will probably suck bad but of course I'm still going to go see it. I saw Mortal 1 AND 2 after all... But only 1 in theatres.

Drawn with the greatest of care. Masterfully executed. Simple, yet understated. None of these words would be used to describe the comic that went up last night at around 1:30am. Like the rest of my country, I find myself absolutely wrecked by Daylight Savings and with having to work a lot of overtime this week, I was worried I would even have a comic for today. So I thought yesterday as I picked up my pencil: Better take it easy today, no sense punishing yourself. (Several hours of drawing later) me: Oops.
Actually, it's perhaps the fastest, yet one of the most well-drawn comics I've done to date. I suppose that's a good thing - getting better and getting faster is always a good thing. And man, talk about Sharpie marker fumes. But damn it's a great little marker for my inking. If I hadn't inked the whole thing by hand I would've never made it. And now that I have - never again! Time to get in gear for next week!

March 12th , 2007

As you can probably tell from this screenshot, today's comic is basically a hommage to this scene, which was also the inspiration for an earlier comic.

There's just something so funny about a robot ambulance drop kicking Thundercracker right in the crotch. Ratchet rules. If any of you haven't guessed by now, yes he is my favourite.

New comic up - yay!
I realize now that one of the things that makes Transformers 'cool' is their ability to transform from their vehicular modes to robots, and back again. ...But drawing it out is a PAIN. But... perhaps it pays off. I know in the comics and shows it looks awesome when they do it. Personally in today's comic, my favourite is panel 2. When I thought about it, those three Autobots really would be somewhat outmatched. Or... ARE they?
(yes, they are)

Whew.. updated news!
It's been a little tight for time lately, but I set this schedule for myself, so I figure I better try and stick with it as much as possible. Part of setting the schedule of two updates a week was to challenge myself a bit. It might not seem like much, and sometimes I have lots of time, but I know last week it was tough. Especially when I decide to punish myself and think up really complex scenarios or designs. Actually, it's amusing to go back to the first couple of comics and go, "What the heck was I doing?" Although that's mostly a comment on the actual drawings themselves.

March 1st , 2007

I know it's a new month, but I was racing for the deadline getting the comic up today, so I didn't have a chance to completely update the news page. I'll be updating it later tonight!
So I was trying to ink my drawings yesterday to scan in, and one of my pen/markers died on me. So I took out a Sharpie, cause I know they're good. .... and Holy fumes batman! I think the papers still smell today from it and some of the ink ran a little. Let that be a lesson to me.

comicsindisguise.com is an unofficial generation 1 transformers fan site and dedicated to all of you who, like myself, grew up watching the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out. The comics are mainly based off the original cartoon series which began in 1984.
