Comics in Disguise

Beachcomber
Gentlemen, to evil!

November 27th , 2008

Happy Thanksgiving to our American cousins South of the border. I've never done an American Thanksgiving comic before, but I had a few people suggest it to me and I thought I'd give it a try. Canadian Thanksgiving is slightly different. We get a Monday off, and people don't really travel, we just tend to eat with any family/friends we have in the city on the Sunday night and that's it. (At least that's how it is for my family and the people I know, feel free to contradict me) I'm sure if we had more relatives here we'd go and eat with them.

Normal updates will continue Monday once I've had a chance to re-energize myself and sleep a little.

For everyone that is arriving on the site this Monday, I apologize for the lack of update but I am both out of town and trying to rest my arm a little, as well as take a bit of a break before the next few comics. I am driving down to the U.S to watch an NHL hockey game with some of my family Monday night.

I will see you when I get back! I don't believe there will be an update Thursday either as I will be back in full editing form Wednesday, which is the evening I usually update. We'll see if I can put something small together, otherwise regular updates continue Monday, December 1st. (3 days before my bday)

There's probably not a lot of explanation that needs to be done, safe to say it goes along with the story quite well. I'll probably say more on the subject later, after it's sunken in a little. I don't want to ruin it by over explaining or simplifying.

So I thought I was being really clever and was like, "No one's going to guess the policeman is Raoul..." But it looks like 95% of the people did guess, which is probably because it's the most logical person to be interacting with Raoul. Someone on my forum hit it right on the head - Time has passed, Raoul (and the other cannon characters) will have aged accordingly, and now he's all grown up and straightened himself out a little from the young hoodlum he used to be.

On the other side of things, it looks pretty bad for our other humans. I don't know if Thundercracker is particularly fond of these humans, but he dislikes needless violence against the humans in general, because he feels it completely unecessary. The fight of Skywarp vs. Thundercracker is coming out a little darker than I initially thought it would look on paper, but they have a lot of history. For any new readers, I suggest reading the Dedication storyline if you're missing some of the backstory. Actually it goes all the way back to Deceptitargets.

Ahhh finally, it feels good to be able to sit down and draw for almost two days straight (thanks to a holiday on November 11th) and get back into all the different storylines I have going. Poor Mirage, he never sticks up for himself. And Skywarp is right - the first time he and Thundercracker met, the latter lost big time.

Looking back on those older comics, I think the sketch style suited me more for the emotions I wanted to get across. Maybe I'll stick with it, I'm having a lot more fun drawing and colouring the comics, as long as people don't mind having a little rougher drawings.

It feels good to be getting serious with the Autobots again too, as much fun as it is making fun of each other.

Well I'm very glad I drew my comic in advance this week, because I ended up being so busy this weekend that I ran out of time to work on it. (And also some work I was going to work on... but oh well, it happens) Also I managed to clean my house... thoroughly.

Another interesting thing happened which was winter came up from behind fall and pwned fall with a mallet and now we're full into winter conditions. I for one, like winter. I like snow and in my opinion if it's going to be cold, it might as well look nice while it is.

I'm going to try and make a larger update for Thursday, we'll see how this week begins to pan out.

A comic featuring the humans (and the CiD humans no doubt) is always a bit risky I think. In a way they're original characters, yet are necessary for the purposes of the plot. I promised myself I'd only bring in original Transformers if I was going to have ALL original characters, and not mix them, but I feel that human characters are different. Every Transformer continuity has their own human characters (Dreamwave used Spike, Carly, Marissa, Daniel) and the original comics had Spike's brother, Buster. In a way I always fought against having a lot of humans mixed in with Transformers because the stories should be focused on the robots. However, they ARE on Earth and would be interacting with humans, for better or for worse. Originally these humans were brought in as co-workers of Thundercracker and plot devices but they're starting to evolve as characters into their own right. What will happen to them? ...Only time will tell.

November is upon us! September and October seemed to have blown by and before you know it there's only a couple months left in the entire year. Sometimes I think my comic storylines possibly go on for a little long, but then I wouldn't want to rush it either. This current storyline is probably going to be twice as long as the others, only because I don't want to split it up at this point since really they all continue on anyway in continuity. I'm looking forward to the upcoming scenes.
